It was a rough day, literally, for Jamaican representative Alex Powell in Round 5 Finals of the ACI Karting Italian Championship at the Adria Karting Raceway in Adria, Italy.

Starting from 6th in Final 1, Powell made a brilliant pass for 3rd on lap 8 and seemed sure for a podium finish as he started the final 10th lap. It was not to be, as a 1/4-lap from the finish he was pushed from behind out of a corner. The contact resulted in Alex dropping to 6th position, unable to recover because of the short distance left in the race. His Energy Course SRL race team protested but the officials took no action.

Alex again started from 6th position in Final 2, where a melee in corner 1 dropped him down to 11th position. Showing strong determination, Alex battled his way back to 5th position by lap 7 but the gap to the leaders was too much to overcome before the chequered flag waved at the end of the 10th lap.

“Alex is a bit disappointed about the first final’s finish, but he is okay” reports his father John Powell.

John also revealed that Alex will travel half way around the globe for his next race, as he has been invited to participate in the  Panamerican Rok Cup Challenge at the Autódromo Xrp Motorpark 1 on August 16 to 18.

The JMMC congratulates Alex on a hard fought day, and wish him good luck in Columbia.
