Jamaican representative Alex Powell is now in Columbia participating in the Panamerican Rok Cup Challenge at the Autódromo Xrp Motorpark 1 from August 16 to 18.
The 1.5km undulating track is located high in the mountains of Bogata, and presents some challenges to Alex’s team.
“The two big obstacles are 1) tuning the engine at high altitude and 2) the track runs anti-clockwise while Alex mostly competes on clockwise tracks” explains John Powell, Alex’s father.
Despite the challenges, Alex has been posting consistently quick times in each practise session, topping the Warm Up 4 & Warm Up 6 sessions. Even when encountering a problem with his kart’s chain seizing up, Alex still posted the 5th fastest time of the final session. Qualifying is later today, along with Heat 1.
The JMMC wishes Alex good luck for a safe and successful event.
