Jamaican representative Alex Powell’s qualifying effort was frustrated by the wrong tyre choice in damp conditions during the Autumn Trophy Final qualifying session at the South Garda Karting circuit in Italy.
After posting the fastest lap times in the two official practice sessions before qualifying, expectations were high for Alex. Rain put a damper on proceedings, ensuring that qualifying would be slower than the blistering times Alex laid down in practice. The team opted for “wets” on Alex’s kart, which turned out to be the wrong choice on a drying track, relegating Alex to 13th quickest, which is the position he will start from for tomorrow’s first Heat.
The race format for Alex’s Mini ROK class will be two Heats, a pre-Final and Final, leaving Alex with a lot of work to do if he is to start close to the front for the Final in his quest for a podium finish. Moral is high in the team as they recognize that Alex has shown he has the speed for the task at hand.
