Yesterday, an abundance of caution on the last lap of Heat 1 cost Jamaican representative Alex Powell the win. In trying to protect his position he lost it, and finished second in the first of three heats scheduled for ROK Cup International Finals.
Today there was no such mistake. Today Alex maintained composure and in so doing served notice that he is at South Garda Karting circuit in Italy targeted on the task at hand.
Today; Two Heats. Two wins. Alex Powell is fully in race mode. Dubbed the “Jamaican Sensation” by commentator Ian Salvestrin, Official Commentator for the CIK European & World Karting Championships with WSK Promotion srl, Alex was clinical in his driving, punctuating the day by winning Heat 3 with a comfortable 1.376-second margin.
Always well supported by his Energy Kart team of mechanics, Alex’s effort is further bolstered by the presence of his personal trainer Elliot Lashley (pictured center with Alex) who made the trip from Trinidad & Tobago to see Alex race and ensure that he stays fit through the grueling four days of the event.
“Today is a good day, with Alex winning both Heats. The competition is very fierce. Alex is focused on the last Heat in the morning.” reports his father John “They love him here for sure.”
Tomorrow’s Mini ROK schedule has one Heat, then the all-important Final.
