Ryan Chisholm’s consistent driving saw him emerge third in points after Saturday’s Round 1 of the Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy. Tommi Gore and Zander Williams rounded out the Top 5 positions, with a bit of bad luck in the Final contributing significantly to Gore not being higher placed overall.
After qualifying in 3rd at the Bushy Park circuit in Barbados, solid finishes of 5th, 2nd and 5th in the three Heats laid the foundation for Chisholm’s podium quest in the Final. An almost explicable exhaust failure on Tommi’s kart resulted in Tommi being Disqualified at Technical Inspection after crossing the line in 2nd place at the end of the Final, elevating Ryan to 3rd.
For much of the day, Tommi led the charge for the Jamaicans. He qualified 4th before recording 2nd, 1st and 3rd place finishes the the Heats, earning a front row starting position. Midway through the race, the silencer broke loose and was ejected sideways from the exhaust system in spectacular fashion. The resulting loss of weight meant that Tommi was declared underweight at post-race Technical Inspection and disqualified from the results. The team attempted to protest but the Stewards advised that the rules were clear, even though Tommi was using a part provided and mandated by the organizers themselves. The DQ meant zero points for Tommi, dropping him from 2nd overall to 4th.
Zander Williams was a model of consistency all day, qualifying 6th before recording 4th, 4th, 4th and 4th places in the three heats and Final. He is currently in a solid 5th place in the points standings.
JMMC congratulate all three drivers for their performances.
