Starting his WSK Champions Cup Pre-Final on pole, Jamaican Alex Powell led for the first five laps before being passed by two competitors on consecutive laps. He managed to maintain position but couldn’t close the gap to the leaders, eventually finishing 3rd.
“Alex had the wrong tyre pressure” explained his Father John Powell. “Half way through the race the kart was gripping up too much. They made some adjustments to the kart for the Final. Any of the top ten kids can win but the English driver Irfan is driving very well.’
Alex began the final 5th on the grid but immediately dropped to 6th at the start. A struggle for pace and a few errors resulted in a 9th place finish at the end of the ten lap Final.
“He made too many mistakes and he paid the price” reported John Powell. “We are getting him back on the track tomorrow to get him refocused in preparation for another race this weekend.”
Alex will compete in the first round of the four event WSK Super Master Series at the Adria Karting Raceway, Italy this coming weekend.
