17 year old Jamaican Travis Worton begun his race season at the SP Tools Australian Kart Championship, Round 1 at Ipswich Kart Club, Queensland, Australia on February 15 to 17.
Travis, the son of Dover Raceway veteran William “Willy” Worton, raced in the highly competitive KZ2 Shifter class. Driving an EvoKart with a TM motor, he qualified 6th of the 24 racers in the class.
He produced a 5th place finish in Heat 1 but was unfortunate to DNF Heat 2 due to a collision from another competitor. Starting from 17th in Heat 3 he finished 8th, and then 10th in Heat 4. In the Final he would cross the line 8th but a bumper penalty dropped him two places to 10th.
“We go testing for the next two weekends in preparation for the next round at Newcastle” reported Willy Worton “No practice is allowed for three weeks prior to the race”.
JMMC congratulate Travis on his result. His next race is March 29-31 at Newcastle Kart Racing Club, New South Wales, Australia.
