The fourth round of the WSK Super Master Series, held at International Circuit Napoli in Sarno, Italy on March 24th certainly didn’t go the way Alex Powell might have planned but in the end his series consistency paid off for 3rd in the WSK Super Master Series Championship.

Alex’s race results on the weekend were a litany of the difficulty he was having. Only 20th in Qualifying, he recorded finishes of 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th & 8th in the five heats, before recovering to finish 4th in his Pre-Final.

Although he was one of only three drivers with a chance of winning the championship, his hopes were dashed when he was put off the track into the grass for an extended period during the Final, dropping him down to 8th place. He managed to recover to finish 6th, seemingly securing 2nd place in the Championship, just one point ahead of the driver in 3rd.

Alex received the Championship 2nd trophy but the difficult weekend wasn’t quite finished yet; while the podium ceremony was taking place the Stewards assessed two drivers behind Alex with bumper penalties, elevating the provisional 3rd place two positions in the standings, just enough to put him one point in front of Alex. With their positions switched, the organizers redid the podium ceremony so that each received their correct trophy.

“I was hoping for a better result this weekend but some things didn’t go as planned.” said Alex “Thank you Energy team and Mike… we’re ready for next week!!

JMMC congratulates Alex for finishing 3rd Overall in the WSK Super Master Series Championship.
