After qualifying on pole and winning his first heat on Friday, things seemed to be going smoothly for Jamaican Alex Powell as he recorded 2nd then 3rd places in his next two heats on Saturday. Things started to go wrong in his final heat when he noticed a definite lack of power, resulting is a significant loss of speed on the straight, dropping him from 1st to 7th place on lap 4. A full course yellow freezing the field for three laps was all that stopped him from losing more positions. A penalty against another competitor elevated him to official 6th place.

“Seems to be something with the engine, maybe a broken ring, he had no speed down the straight” reported John Powell. “An accident caused the yellow flag, otherwise he would have finished further back.”

The Energy Corse team changed the engine for Sunday’s Pre-Final, in which Alex placed 2nd, setting up a 4th place grid start in the Final. Although he dropped to 6th place on the first lap, Alex battled back to 2nd place by lap four but couldn’t find a way past the leader for the next four laps, crossing the finish line to record 2nd.

“Coming off a difficult weekend last week it was nice for Alex to be back on the podium.” said John Powell. “We are now starting a new championship and we need maximum points at every race in order to stand a chance to win the championship. Alex drove smart.” His results in the heats and Final now place Alex 2nd with three rounds left in the championship.

Alex’s next event is the Trofeo Andrea Margutti at South Garda Karting next weekend April 6th & 7th.

JMMC congratulate Alex on his 2nd place finish.
