Jamaican Alex Powell had to battle back from a disastrous start in Final 1 of Round 2 of Italian ACI Karting Championship at the Siena Circuit in Tuscany , Italy on Sunday June 9th.
After securing Pole position for Final 1, a bad start saw Alex dropping to 6th at the end of lap 1, then to 7th at the end of lap 2. He moved back up to 6th for the next four laps, before overtaking into 5th for seven laps, eventually moving to 4th place on the penultimate lap.
In Final 2, Alex once again dropped back briefly to 6th before moving up to 2nd at the end of lap six. Alex described what happened next. “It was a tough and close race” said Alex, “I was in second going into the last lap. There was a lot of jostling and I dropped back to seventh and pushed to finish in third.”
Thanks to his consistent results, Alex has moved to third overall in the Italian ACI Karting Championship. Round 3 will take place at the Naples International Circuit on July 5 to 7.
