Jamaican Alex Powell ensured that his 2nd place qualifying was put to good use, recording finishes of 5th, 1st and 1st in his three Heats on Saturday July 6th at Round 3 of the Italian ACI Karting Championship at the Naples International Circuit in Sarno, Italy.
Starting from the front row in Sunday’s Final 1, Alex was caught in a bunch of karts going into the first corner, dropping back to 6th place. Making steady progress through the field, Alex was in 3rd entering the final lap. An audacious move, sweeping around the outside of a corner, saw him overtaking both leading karts at once, to cross the line in 1st place.
In the reverse grid Final 2, Alex started from 8th position, progressing to finish 4th, unable to close the gap on the podium finishers. However, his event points and consistent results have moved Alex to 1st Overall in the Italian ACI Karting Championship. Round 4 will take place at the Adria Karting Raceway on July 26 to 28.
