Jamaican Alex Powell had a mixed bag of results on debut in his first Formula 4 race series, the Formula 4 UAE Championship.
Qualifying 4th in Q1 and 5th in Q2, Powell put himself near the front of the field for the start of races 1 & 3. Running as high as 3rd in race 1, he eventually finished 4th for a solid result. His race 1 finish put him 9th on the reverse grid for race 2, where at the start of the race he was pushed wide in corner 1, momentarily going airborne after contact. He recovered to P8 before being too cautious, allowing 2 cars past, finishing 10th. A solid 6th place finish in race 3 was short lived, as a post-race 5-second penalty pushed him to 14th and out of the points. As a result of the penalty, Alex dropped to 9th in the 5-round championship and 2nd in the rookie championship standings.
Alex noted “Round 1 of F4 UAE was full of ups and downs. Good steps forward in some areas but still some work to do in others. We’ll be back soon, just need to put it all together!”
Alex’s next event is Round 2 of the Formula 4 UAE Championship at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi on January 19th to 21st.
