March 6, 2025 – The Caribbean Drag Racing Championship (CDRC) proudly announces the addition of the St. Lucia Drag Racing Team (SLDRT) to its competitive lineup. St. Lucia now joins Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and Jamaica in this premier regional motorsport series.

The initiative is supported by the St. Lucia Ministry of Youth Development and Sports which officially registered SLDRT to compete in the championship. This milestone allows St. Lucia’s top drag racers to compete regionally, with hopes of qualifying for the highly anticipated CDRC Finals in Jamaica in January 2026.

Chris Elliott, a member of the FIA Drag Racing Commission, extended his congratulations, stating, “Congratulations to the St. Lucia Drag Racing Team (SLDRT), with the support of the Government of St. Lucia, on officially registering with the Caribbean Drag Racing Championship (CDRC). Your commitment to the growth and development of drag racing in the region is a sterling example for others to follow. We especially look forward to the showcase of racers from the Base, waving your flag high throughout the season. Welcome to the CDRC family!”

SLDRT will compete in the championship’s two competitive classes:

Pro Street (10.999 to 10.000 seconds)

Pro Race (9.999 to 9.000 seconds)

St. Lucia’s top racers in these classes will have the opportunity to qualify for the CDRC Finals, with two local 1/8-mile and one regional 1/4-mile qualifying event determining eligibility. As a closed competition, racers are invited by their National Sporting Authority (ASN) to represent their country at no cost of entry. SLDRT’s inclusion strengthens the championship’s mission of uniting the region through a shared passion for speed and competition. The CDRC utilizes a points-based system, where racers accumulate points by competing in three of their locally staged national events. The top 16 competitors in each class will then compete for championship glory in Jamaica. Winners will receive trophies and prize money, with additional winnings awarded to their respective ASNs.

Stephen Gunter, Chairman of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC), which spearheads the CDRC in collaboration with the Barbados Motoring Federation (BMF), the Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters (BADD), the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMRSC), and the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA), welcomed St. Lucia’s entry, saying, “We extend our deepest appreciation to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports of St. Lucia for its leadership in making this initiative a reality. SLDRT’s inclusion adds another exciting chapter to the CDRC, and we eagerly anticipate the fierce competition ahead as St. Lucia’s best drivers battle for a place in the Finals.”

The addition of the St. Lucia Drag Racing Team marks a new era for regional motorsport, further cementing the Caribbean Drag Racing Championship as the pinnacle of drag racing in the region. Fans can expect thrilling races as the competition heats up on the way to the Finals in Jamaica.
