The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) is proud to announce the participation of three Jamaicans in a one-week drone training programme recently held in Trinidad and Tobago from May 26-29. The initiative was funded by the FIA Regional Development Programme and delivered by the Drone & Vertical Mobility Academy, in collaboration with FIA Region III and the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Association.
Representing Jamaica were Stephen Gunter, Chairman of the JMMC, Mark March of the Montego Bay Racing Association, and Kedron Kennedy of 876 Streets. They joined participants from across the Americas and the Caribbean, including representatives from the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, and the host nation, Trinidad & Tobago.
The programme combined theoretical and practical sessions covering safe drone operation, regulatory compliance, and business applications. By the end of the week, each participant had developed proposals for how their Club could apply drone technologies — ranging from the establishment of drone pilot schools to the use of automated drones for circuit race monitoring.
“This training was extremely valuable, not only in developing technical proficiency but also in showing us how drone technologies can be practically applied within motorsport and mobility,” said JMMC Chairman Stephen Gunter. “The knowledge gained will be instrumental in enhancing safety, efficiency, and innovation across Jamaica’s motorsport activities.”
The initiative reflects the FIA’s ongoing commitment to supporting its Regions and Member Clubs in adopting cutting-edge technologies that strengthen operations and services. For Jamaica, the participation of these three representatives marks an important step in exploring how drones can contribute to the future of motorsport management and mobility solutions.
