The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) recognizes Alex Powell’s composed and resilient performance during the opening round of the 2026 Formula Regional Middle East Trophy Championship at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Competing for Pinnacle Motorsport in the brand-new Tatuus T-326 Formula Regional car, Powell entered the weekend in one of the most competitive junior single-seater fields in international motorsport. Qualifying margins were exceptionally tight, underlining the challenge faced by the entire grid.
Powell delivered a disciplined and mature drive in the opening race under the Yas Marina floodlights. Engaged in a prolonged contest with Alex Ninovic, Powell defended confidently to finish sixth overall, while also securing third place in the Rookie classification — a solid start to his FRME campaign.
Race Two unfolded dramatically from the formation lap. After multiple incidents led to a red flag, Powell lined up fifth for the restart. However, at Turn 6 on the first lap of green-flag racing, he was an innocent victim in a collision when Kean Nakamura-Berta made contact while attempting an inside move on another competitor. Powell was spun out of contention.
Although he managed to continue, Powell was ultimately classified 23rd, leaving him without points from the race.
Starting third on the grid for the final race, Powell made an excellent launch and immediately advanced to second position when the car ahead stalled at the start. From there, he drove a controlled and intelligent race, maintaining position to take second place overall at the chequered flag.
The result also earned Powell victory in the Rookie class, marking a significant milestone in his Formula Regional career. It was a clear demonstration of Powell’s mental strength, adaptability, and ability to rebound after adversity — qualities that continue to define his development as a professional racing driver.
Following the opening round at Yas Marina, Alex Powell now sits:
• 5th in the Drivers’ Championship, and
• 2nd in the Rookie Championship.
The Formula Regional Middle East Trophy Championship remains at Yas Marina Circuit for Round Two from January 23–25, 2026, where Powell and Pinnacle Motorsport will seek to continue their positive momentum.
