June 12, 2018: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LET’S JOIN THE CONVERSATION: JMMC ROAD SAFETY INITIATIVE 2018

Statistics show that 3500 persons are killed on the road daily, which is nearly 1.3 million lives lost per year; an unacceptable human, economic and social cost for our societies. 500 of this daily count are said to be children; think about your child, your niece, nephew, god child, relative or a friendly neighbourhood child who will innocently lose their life today. You can make a difference.

That’s why the JMMC has joined the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Action for Road Safety campaign this June with the official launch of our JMMC Road Safety Initiative. The FIA is dedicated to improving the safety of every day road users throughout the world.

Road safety is not just the responsibility of the person behind the steering wheel of the car. We need to teach others including our children how to use the roads safely, we as adults also need to lead by example.

The aim is to raise awareness on the number of people who die on the road every day and the need to take action. Since 2017, the #3500LIVES Global Road Safety Campaign has been deployed in more than 75 countries worldwide. Since the start of June the JMMC has through our social media platforms been publishing these videos with key messages about simple daily actions we can take/initiate/ encourage to help in making a difference.

Let’s join the conversation about road safety. We want to talk about how we can play our part in making our road ways safe – Keeping our children, pedestrians and motorcyclist safe. It’s about all of us – Safety is our responsibility.

The 10th anniversary milestone for the Jamaica Driver & Traffic Safety Expo will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. The JMMC will be there with our affiliate clubs to help spread the word, share the knowledge and encourage everyone to keep safe and help to keep our neighbours safe. Join Us! The Expo starts at 8am and goes until 6pm; there will be a Road Safety March starting at 8:30am from King’s House to Ranny Williams Centre. We encourage you to come out and visit the different booths at the expo, join the discussions, open forums and learn more about how we can help to keep our roads safe.
