For Immediate Release

July 7, 2022

The JMMC is aware of video and other media circulating via social media regarding the motor racing license status of Jamie James, a competitor who races with the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC).

While the video interview of Mr. James names the JRDC, the JMMC wishes to inform all interested persons of the following.

  • The JMMC is the sole authority authorized to issue (competition) licenses for motor racing in Jamaica.  Every entrant who participates in a JMMC sanctioned event, must be in possession of a current valid JMMC License.  Competition Licenses are issued following the completion and submission of the Competition License Application and ASN Subscription Forms along with completed medical forms, current passport photo and payment of relevant fees, all of which are accommodated via an online process for ease of access.
  • The JMMC issued public notifications in April 2022 regarding the process for the application and approval of licenses. These informative releases were issued via the JMMC website, social media channels Facebook & Instagram as well as via email to JMMC, JRDC and JKA members and various WhatsApp information groups.   The process for 2022 license application has been open and utilized by numerous competitors prior to the July 3, 2022 event.
  • Prior to the event Mr. James did not submit a license application form along with the requisite support documents required for the processing and approval of a license this includes the necessary medical form, photo and payment.  To date he still has not.   His statement in the video that he had paid all the fees and made the payments for a license and the only thing missing was a medical is IRREFUTABLY false.
  • The only step of the process completed prior to the event by Mr. James was the submission of an ASN subscription form and proof of payment of the 2022 ASN Subscription fee.

Mr. James by his own admission is an experienced racer who is aware of the requirement to have a competition license to compete in a race event.  He should within reason still be familiar with the application process and requirements for obtaining a competition license.

Notwithstanding the above mentioned, it is incumbent on ALL event organizers to properly check all documents of each event entrant (racer) during their registration process. Having not being able to present the possession of a current JMMC National Competition License as stipulated on the Event ASR as a mandatory requirement, his entry application to compete in the event should not have been accepted.

Whenever Mr. James completes the relevant license application process as is required the ASN will review and process his submission as per the regulations.  The JMMC remains committed to the growth and development of motor racing in Jamaica, in accordance with existing rules and regulations.
