Four heats, four very different race results marked the second day for Jamaican representative Alex Powell in the WSK Final Cup at the Adria International Raceway.

On another cold, wet day, two spin-outs on lap four in the first Heat resulted in a 19th place finish. Alex then bounced back in the second Heat to claim 3rd place by just 0.009sec behind 2nd. In the third Heat, he moved rapidly from his 6th place starting position but when trying to pass the 1st & 2nd place karts in the second corner he spun, eventually crossing the line 4th but a 5-second bumper penalty dropped him to 13th.

Before the fourth Heat the drama continued, as explained by his father John Powell “Starter motor stuck,  we rushed to change it with five minutes to get to Pre-grid. This is pressure!” Fortunately they changed it and were just in time. In the final Heat of the day he worked his way to 3rd but lost race pace, finishing in 7th place.

His results have placed him 19th overall in the Qualifying Heats, earning him 10th place starting position in Sunday’s Pre-Final A. Remarkably, despite his roller-coaster Heat placings Alex still maintains the overall points lead in the Mini class for the WSK Final Cup championship.
