The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) is pleased to announce that Nicholas “Tazz” Barnes will represent Jamaica at the prestigious FIA Intercontinental Drifting Cup (IDC), set for 2–5 October 2025 in Riga, Latvia. This marks a historic first for Jamaica, as Barnes becomes the nation’s inaugural competitor in an FIA drifting championship event.

Barnes secured his place on the international stage after his commanding victory at Round 2 of the Drift Ruption Series, held on July 27 at Dover Raceway, St. Ann. By virtue of this win, he earned the JMMC’s official nomination to compete at the FIA IDC.

The FIA Intercontinental Drifting Cup is the pinnacle global drifting competition, and the 2025 edition will feature a refreshed sporting format aimed at enhancing international diversity and competitiveness. For the first time, FIA Member Clubs were given the opportunity to nominate a single driver, ensuring broader global representation.

Drivers competing at the FIA IDC are required to hold an international circuit licence (ITD1, ITC-D or higher) and must enter cars fully compliant with FIA DC1 technical regulations. Barnes has met these requirements, underscoring his readiness to represent Jamaica at the highest level of the sport.

Stephen Gunter, Chairman of the JMMC, hailed the milestone: “This is a proud moment for Jamaica. Nicholas ‘Tazz’ Barnes has worked tirelessly to refine his craft, and his victory at Drift Ruption has earned him the right to showcase Jamaica’s talent on the world stage. This historic opportunity not only highlights his dedication but also shines a spotlight on the growth of drifting in Jamaica.”

Nicholas Barnes’ participation in the FIA IDC represents a new chapter for Jamaican motorsport, as the island’s best talent steps into the global spotlight against the world’s elite drifters.
