Jamaican Alex Powell’s bid for the Overall podium in the WSK Euro Series championship came up short as the series concluded at the Adria International Raceway in Italy on June 29th.
After finishes of 4th, 5th and 2nd in his first three Heats, Powell’s points progress was severely hampered when his engine wouldn’t start in order to join the grid for Heat four. Eventually getting the engine started, Alex was forced to start from pit lane in 30th position and was more than three seconds behind 28th place at the end of the first lap. Despite a spirited drive which included setting the fastest lap of the race, Alex could only progress to 18th place before the race ended. That result meant that Alex would start the pre-Final on the fifth row, while the points lost virtually eliminated any chance of being on the Championship podium.
A determined drive in the Pre-Final resulted in a 6th place finish but that only earned a starting position in the sixth row in the Final. Unfortunate to get caught in bunched traffic at the start, Alex fell to 13th before working his way forward, eventually finishing 7th, unable to catch the lead pack. With the notable exceptions of the accident induced DNF at Round 3 in Logano and 18th due to starting in the pit lane at Round 4 in Adria, his otherwise consistent finishes in the series secured 5th Overall in the WSK Euro Series Championship.
JMMC congratulate Alex for his result.
