The Farmville track at Thetford Great House in Church Pen, Bushy Park,  St. Catherine played host to the fourth round of the exciting Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club’s 2012 National Sprint championship on Sunday, June 17.

Class JA2

The usually highly subscribed JA2 class that has seen the fiercest competition since the season started again delivered on its top billing, but for this round only the top three contenders were to take to the course. Returning to the track for the first time since his roll on the Tru Juice rally a few months ago, Daryl “Flat Cat” King took his revamped Thrifty Gas/Canon Mufflers/Gas Smart Honda Civic to the top step of the podium by posting a best time of 1 minute 27 seconds on his third timed run, just edging out Jordan “Frosty” Powell in the R & B Auto Parts Toyota Corolla FX who had recorded a time of 1 min 27.11 secs. just a few moments earlier. Very close in third place was Matthew “The Magnet” Gore driving the Team Mobay Racing/Tragedy Entertainment/Summer Flex Toyota Starlet ( 1:27.83 ) who had won the class at the previous event, Sprint 3 in St. Elizabeth in March.

In the next higher JA3 class for 2 wheel drive cars up to 2000cc, 2006 and 2009 Rally Sport Drivers champion Dean “Duct Tape” Corrodus came out on top for the fourth time this season in the Automotive Performance Centre Ltd Honda Civic Type R with a best time of 1:30.86 on his third run while suffering gearbox problems which seems to have followed him from the last event at Dover Raceway. 2003 Rally Sport Drivers champion Christopher “Teach” McFarlane in the Stewarts Auto Sales/Dunlop Tyres/AC Delco Mitsubishi Lancer GT placed second (1:33.25) narrowly edging out gentleman racer Keith “Slicks” Saunders in “old Faithful”, his rear wheel drive Chevrolet Chevette with a Toyota 7a engine, was 3rd in class with a best time of 1:33.67. Fourth in class sharing McFarlane’s Mitsubishi was sprint debutant Timothy Stewart, son of Duncan Stewart of the Stewart Auto Sales clan. Timothy is an accomplished karting competitor who has now made the transition to cars and by the looks of things will do very well, as he quickly adapted to the changing conditions to be within 5 seconds of the class winning time.
