Jamaican Alex Powell began Round 2 of the F4 United Arab Emirates Championship claiming his first Pole position in F4, and secured his first podium by finishing P2 in Race 1, along with his first win in the Rookie category. In Race 2 he finished 6th, having started 11th on the reverse grid. Points earned from the first two races moved him up two places in the championship standings.
Disaster struck at the start of Race 3. John Powell reported on Alex’s start; “The first phase of the launch was good, but the second phase the car stalled. He was very lucky that nobody hit him from behind.” The stall meant that Alex dropped from 4th to 35th, while accidents resulting in three full-course-yellow phases behind the Pace Car limited actual racing to only five laps, giving little opportunity for progress through the field. The race finished under Caution, with Alex in 23rd place. Alex is now 7th in the overall championship and 2nd in the rookie championship.
Commenting on his race weekend, Alex said “Round 2 of the F4 UAE Championship was a weekend full of challenges to overcome and to learn from. I’m proud with the overall progression made so far, but I still have some work to do!”
Alex’s next race is Round 3 of the F4 UAE Championship at the Dubai Autodrome on February 2nd to 4th.
