JMMC Chairman Stephen Gunter led Jamaica’s delegation to the recent General Assemblies of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) in Kigali, Rwanda, from December 10 to 13, 2024.
Held in Africa for the first time and attended by all FIA Member Clubs, the General Assemblies convene once a year to plan the future course of the Federation; meetings addressed the budget, elected key officials, discussed proposals from the World Councils, admitted new Members, and voted on amendments to the FIA Statutes and the FIA International Sporting Code. Regional Sport Clubs Meetings highlighted innovation, collaboration, and grassroots growth, and FIA programmes to empower Member Clubs and drive a positive future for motorsport globally.
The General Assemblies are the supreme decision-making body of the FIA. Chaired by the President, these meetings include automobile and touring clubs and national sporting authorities representing FIA member organizations. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who led the FIA General Assemblies meeting, highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration.
Mr. Gunter’s attendance was historic for Jamaica, marking the first time that Jamaica participated and voted in the General Assemblies.
