The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) proudly celebrates a watershed moment for Jamaican motorsport as Senna Summerbell and Chris Issa have been crowned the 2025 TCR European Endurance Series Champions (DSG Class). Their triumph under the lights at Misano, Italy, marks the first time Jamaican drivers have ever secured a European motorsport title, establishing a new benchmark for Caribbean excellence on the global racing stage.
In addition to winning their class, the duo secured an impressive second place in the overall championship, capping off an extraordinary first season racing together in Europe. Their successes, combined with the strength and professionalism of Wimmer Werk Motorsport, also delivered the 2025 TCR European Endurance Team Championship, completing a historic triple for Jamaica.
While the Misano victory represents the pinnacle, the road to this championship began with uncertainty. Earlier in the year, Summerbell had stepped away from the GT4 Germany programme after Valencia, facing rising costs, personal pressures, and doubts about whether European competition was still attainable.
Everything changed when former rivals Wimmer Werk Motorsport reached out, inviting him to join their TCR campaign. When Summerbell shared the opportunity with Issa, “Uncle Chris” immediately committed to joining him as a co-driver, insisting that Senna’s talent belonged on the European stage. His belief reignited the effort that ultimately led to this historic triumph.
Determined to give their campaign the best possible foundation, Issa invested heavily in preparation, purchasing a top-tier racing simulator matched precisely to the car’s characteristics, and engaging Jayden Harrison, Jamaica’s leading sim racer, to coach both drivers nightly. That meticulous work allowed Summerbell to arrive at the season opener fast straight out of FP1.
On race weekends, Issa raised the bar even further, bringing in Usain Bolt’s physiotherapist to help manage warm-ups, hydration, recovery, jet lag, and cockpit heat. His behind-the-scenes commitment earned deep respect from the team, whose mechanics performed two engine changes, a gearbox swap for the finale, and full brake overhauls across the season, and even prompted Wimmer Werk to declare Issa “the best racer they’ve ever had.”
In a final act of selflessness, Issa stepped aside for the championship-deciding drive, entrusting Summerbell to run the race solo. He remained on the radio throughout, managing race strategy, and even handed Senna his own lightweight gear, plus the now-famous energy gummies taped into the cockpit for the heat.
Summerbell has expressed that this achievement, the first TCR European Championship title for the Caribbean, carries profound emotional weight. But sharing it with Issa, whose faith and investment made the season possible, means even more.
“This title means everything. Sharing it with someone who gave everything behind the scenes, quietly and consistently, means even more. Uncle Chris, a Jamaican legend and a real teammate. This win is Jamaica’s, and it’s ours.”
JMMC President Stephen Gunter extended congratulations on behalf of the Jamaican motorsport community:“Senna Summerbell and Chris Issa have not only made history, they have set a new standard for Jamaican motorsport. Their professionalism, humility, and determination embody the very best of our racing culture. On behalf of the entire Jamaican motorsport community, the JMMC congratulates them, their families, and Wimmer Werk Motorsport on this extraordinary achievement. They have inspired a generation and proven that Jamaica can compete, and win, on the world stage.”
This championship marks one of the most significant international accomplishments in Jamaica’s motorsport history. It represents determination, teamwork, sacrifice, and national pride, and signals what is possible for future Jamaican drivers with ambition and the right support behind them.
The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club once again extends heartfelt congratulations to Senna Summerbell and Chris Issa, 2025 TCR European Endurance Series Champions, and to Wimmer Werk Motorsport, winners of the 2025 Team Championship.
