The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) is proud to highlight the participation and competitive performances of Jamaican crews at the recently held Barbados Shakedown Rally on Sunday, a key preparatory event ahead of the highly anticipated inaugural Rally Barbados scheduled for the end of May.
Three Jamaican pairings took to the stages in what proved to be an intense and valuable warm-up event:
- Jeffrey Panton / Michael Fennell
- Kyle Gregg / Kreigg Yearwood (Barbados)
- Horatio Brown / Leslie Evanson (Barbados)
The event delivered both challenges and encouraging signs of pace for the Jamaican contingent. Mechanical issues unfortunately hampered two crews, with Horatio Brown forced to retire before the finish. Kyle Gregg also encountered setbacks early on but demonstrated resilience and determination, mounting an impressive recovery drive to secure a commendable second-place finish. His performance was highlighted by a series of strong stage times as he pushed hard to regain lost ground.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Panton and co-driver Michael Fennell experienced a measured start to the rally but steadily built momentum as the event progressed. Their efforts culminated in a fourth-place finish, narrowly missing the podium by an astonishing margin of just 0.85 seconds, underlining the highly competitive nature of the event.
The JMMC views the Shakedown Rally as an important benchmark for performance, preparation, and reliability, particularly as teams fine-tune their machinery and strategies ahead of Rally Barbados. The pace demonstrated by the Jamaican crews, despite setbacks, is a strong indicator of their competitiveness heading into the main event.
The Club commends all competitors for their representation and resilience and looks forward to continued strong performances as preparations intensify for Rally Barbados at the end of May.
