From John Powell: “This weekend is the last round of the Italian Championship, which is being held in Ugento, South Italy. This track is quite technical and difficult to pass (on). There are only 34 drivers for the final round, however the top 10 drivers competing in the championship are all here.”

That’s the level of competition that Jamaican representative Alex Powell finds himself among this weekend, yet he still finished in the top 5 of every practice session.

In qualifying, a small mistake going wide on the exist of a corner resulted in dirt pickup on his tyres, slowing him to 12th. In his first heat he finished 7th, which is where he started his second heat.

At corner 2 of the second heat, Alex’s speed seemed to be getting the wrong type of attention; for the second event in a row he was hit off the track. More from John Powell “Alex dropped all the way to 32nd position and fought his way back to 15th. In working his way through traffic Alex set the fastest lap time. He will start Sunday’s final in 15th position.”

The JMMC wishes Alex good luck for a safe and successful final on Sunday.
