Jamaican Alex Powell’s debut in the Junior class came to a dramatic halt when he was involved in an accident during the Final of the 24th Trofeo Invernale “Ayrton Senna” event held at Circuito Internazionale Napoli last weekend.

“Unfortunately in the Final, at the start of the race, at the end of the straight a driver spun and took out four other drivers. He hit Alex and sent Alex turning over off the track. Alex is okay, but the kart and helmet are destroyed.” reported John Powell. He later updated that Alex “hurt his left hand, it’s swollen now” as a result of the accident.

To that point, Alex had been having a good debut. “He was able to stay in the Top 5 in all Practices. Qualified 5th out of 36. He surprised everyone in qualifying, so I guess they were out for him in the first race; he looked like a rag doll being bounced around” reported John, noting that Alex finished 11th in his first Heat then 5th in his second before progressing to the Final.

JMMC wish Alex a speedy recovery. His next event is the WKA in Daytona, Fl, USA on December 27 to 29.
